After disappearing for a few Mondays in a row, Monday Throwback is finally back on Pentecost Holiday.
This time we go back to 2013, to a concert at the Jazz Visions Festival in Bricherasio (Turin, Italy) shortly after the release of “Immagini“, the album by pianist and composer Riccardo Arrighini, a project I was honoured to be part of both as a singer and lyricist.
The concept was inspired by the music of the Pat Metheny Group, and the way Pedro Aznar’s voice could move naturally inside the ensemble — not just as a lead voice, but as another colour within the music itself. That approach opened interesting possibilities for blending voice, lyrics and instrumental textures throughout the project.
The piece is “Gabriel’s Theme”, which Riccardo wrote while waiting for the birth of his first son, Gabriel. The short lyrics I wrote for the middle section of the piece were inspired by that moment. 👶🏻
Featuring:
🎹 Riccardo Arrighini – piano
🎤 Emiliano Loconsolo – vocals
🎛️ Ugo Bongianni – keyboards & effects
🎻 Gabriele Evangelista – double bass
🥁 Bernardo Guerra – drums
